About the role As Principal Cost Estimating in our Project Services group, you will provide estimating support and expertise to ensure quality delivery within the Projects Vice-presidency, which is responsible for developing and delivering a diverse portfolio of capital projects.
The role requires development and monitoring of the different Capitals, Operational, Study and Closure estimate, including the integration of stream and functional works, and corrective / preventative actions to influence on-time delivery of the project’s objectives in its different phases.
Mentors and provides functional support to Projects Services professional and provides guidance to external contractors and consultants on BHP Estimating processes and procedures.
Accountabilities - Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Business Requirements, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development. - Guides the development of the Estimates deliverables in conjunction with the Project Services Manager / Estimate Manager.
Utilizes the Estimate standards and practices in the provision of Project Services for a project portfolio of projects.
Verifies the implementation of the different Estimate methodologies, strategies and systems for a portfolio of projects in accordance to the Class requirements.
Provides Estimate expertise and support to the Project Team to ensure the estimate quality. - Guides implementation contractor’s requirements for format, timing, and content of the estimate deliverables.
Provides feedback on Estimate processes, systems and standards used across BHP Projects. - Leads and integrates estimates from different stakeholders and work streams such as engineering, operations, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational readiness.
Defines reporting requirements, review, and approve implementation contractor’s estimates plan and process. - Compiles information fit for purpose for the different stakeholder such as projects, finance, investment, technical development, contract / procurements and cost control.
Leads change management related to estimate process. - Analyses build up estimates and bidding proposal to support contract negotiation.
Manages the cost range model for estimates range / risk analysis and conducts ranging workshops, including review of range results and issue cost estimate range / risk reports.
Identifies and implements improvement initiatives, to improve estimate accuracy, predictability and competitivenessAbout You Requirements - Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Quantity Surveying (Africa) or related discipline;
MBA degree is a plus. - 10+ years of applicable Project Services experience with a minimum of 5+ years leading Cost or Estimating teams across a large diverse portfolio of capital greenfield and brownfield projects from resources / mining industry (preferable), heavy industry, infrastructure or construction.
Strong background of Owners Team or Contractor capital projects team positions. - Demonstrated experience with Estimating processes, systems and tools.
