POSITION SUMMARY Provides in-house Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S;) direction, support and guidance to the facility.

  • Ensures site follows applicable EH&S; regulations as well as Corporate H&S; policies. As a member of the Site Leadership Team represents the EH&S;
  • function creating / driving EHS strategy for the site. This position would also contribute to the larger EHS Pharma Services Group network to develop long term strategy for the organization and serve as a coach / mentor to EHS leaders at smaller sites.

    As a larger manufacturing facility within the geographic region, the Director, EHS, would represent the Thermo Fisher Scientific organization at local / regional industry groups / committees.

  • Key Responsibilities : Provides strategic direction to the Leadership Team and senior leaders at the site related to EH&S;
  • programs to drive continuous improvementProvides guidance / support to the site on new business opportunities and projectsRepresents the Leadership Team when necessary at Tier Boards, Meetings, Townhalls etcReports to Vice President and General Manager of the SiteA member of the Site Leadership TeamLeads the EH&S;
  • at the facilityLeads all aspects of the development and implementation of EHS Policies, Procedures and ProgramsLead, coach & mentor a site team of EHS professionalsCreate strategic plan for the site to drive continuous EHS improvementLeads the Emergency Response teamLeads the chemical containment strategy and combustible dust programDevelop Best Practice programsReport Metrics to Corporate and Site Leadership TeamPoint of contact for EHS matters with site staff, regulatory agencies, and clientsLeads the Site Security PortfolioLead the Site Security Department and ensure adequate resources are provided to support site security needsPartner with Corporate Security to identify, prioritize, develop and implement physical security, emergency preparedness, and safety strategies that align with industry standardsManage & maintain security technology standards to ensure compliance with applicable laws and corporate requirementsLead strategic initiatives to reduce physical security risk at the site, in partnership with key stakeholdersDevelop and manage all site security operating proceduresActive participants in the PSG EHS network to provide strategic input to help drive the EHS program within the business group.

    Assist in coaching / mentoring smaller sites within the network and when vital provide supportAssists Divisional EHS Leaders when applicableParticipates on local advisory committees, industry committees and networks to promote Thermo Fisher Scientific and to represent the company as the need arises.

    Identifies industry (including regulatory) changes that may affect site operations and assists to develop and implement plans to meet compliance requirements.

    Selects, develops and evaluates staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function.Works with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures.

  • Qualifications : Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences or related field; Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene preferredEH&S;
  • Certificate or DiplomaOther Professional designation in Health & Safety preferredMinimum 10 years of previous Environment, Health and Safety experience in an industrial or related environment.

    5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience preferred5+ years proven experience leading direct reportsEquivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Proven people management experience. Demonstrated success in successive leadership positions.

    Well versed in EH&S; legislation. Ability to coach and develop staff and the technical ability to coordinate departmental business activities.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to motivate and lead.Well organized and detail oriented.

    Excellent computer and database skills. Excellent presentation skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

    Proficiency with the English Language.
